This is a Bumpa Hoist, which is a petrol generated loading machine, which safely gets materials onto the scaffold. In this video we are using the hoist to get tiles from the ground to the scaffold. We loaded up 3200 tiles, 150 bonnet hips and 40 ridge tiles in a few hours.
Here it shows the difficulty and time it takes to remove slates from battens when the slates are quite thin, and the nails are strong. Care has to be taken not to break the slate, and at the same time, not too much time can be spent on each individual slate. Plus, as yo can see all the mortar from the back pointing drops into the loft. This is cleaned up once the roof is covered with membrane and no further mess will enter the loft.
